Remote Training Setup Instructions

Get ready for your Nexacu instructor-led Microsoft Teams session before training day. Check your device, meeting link, software, exercise files and audio setup so you can join the class prepared and on time.

Important

The instructor is responsible for delivering training to the whole class. You may be removed or denied entry if you join late, are unprepared, have not followed setup instructions or are experiencing unresolved technical difficulties.

Mobile phones are too small to be used as a second screen. Use a second monitor where possible, or a tablet if a monitor is not available.

How to Join

Join your remote course through Microsoft Teams.

Nexacu remote sessions run through Microsoft Teams. You do not need a paid Microsoft Teams account to join.

Teams Desktop App

Best option. If Teams is installed, clicking your meeting link should prompt you to open the app and join the session.

Web Browser

No install required. Choose “continue on this browser” when prompted. Edge or Chrome is recommended.

Phone Dial-In

Backup only. Use the phone number in the invite if your internet fails, noting that you will not see screen sharing.

Different courses require different desktop apps, licences, browsers, operating systems and exercise files. Select your course below and prepare your device before training day.

Excel Courses

Desktop app required Exercise files required Windows recommended

Excel courses require the Microsoft Excel desktop application. Excel Online is not suitable for full course functionality.

Software Microsoft Excel desktop app installed and licensed.
Version Microsoft 365 desktop app is recommended. Advanced, Expert, Power Query and VBA courses may require newer desktop features.
Files Download and extract exercise files from the Student Portal before class.
  • Use Chrome, Edge or Firefox to access portal materials.
  • Create a course folder such as Excel Exercise Files, then unzip all downloaded files into that folder.
  • For Excel VBA, confirm macros can be enabled and your workplace security settings do not block VBA files.
  • macOS users can attend selected Excel courses, but some features differ from Windows and trainers may not be able to provide detailed macOS guidance.

Word Courses

Desktop app recommended Exercise files required

Word courses require Microsoft Word installed and licensed. The desktop app is recommended for the best training experience.

Software Microsoft Word desktop app installed and licensed.
Files Download and extract Word exercise files from the Student Portal.
Compatibility Microsoft 365 desktop app is recommended for best feature alignment.
  • Open Word before class to confirm it launches correctly.
  • Do not work directly inside a zipped folder. Extract the files first.
  • Some formatting and document management features may differ between Windows and macOS.

PowerPoint Courses

Desktop app recommended Exercise files required

PowerPoint courses require Microsoft PowerPoint installed and licensed. The desktop app is recommended for full feature access.

Software Microsoft PowerPoint desktop app installed and licensed.
Files Download and extract PowerPoint exercise files from the Student Portal.
Audio and display Use a second screen so you can follow demonstrations while building slides.
  • Open PowerPoint before class and confirm you can create and save files.
  • Extract exercise files before the session starts.
  • Some design and animation features may differ between Windows and macOS.

Outlook Courses

Desktop app required Account access required

Outlook courses require the Microsoft Outlook desktop application installed and licensed on your device.

Software Microsoft Outlook desktop app installed and licensed.
Account Use an Outlook or Microsoft 365 mailbox you can safely use during training.
Files Download exercise files if supplied in the Student Portal.
  • Open Outlook before class and confirm your mailbox is available.
  • Some features may differ between New Outlook, Classic Outlook, browser Outlook and macOS Outlook.
  • Check with your IT team if mailbox policies or add-ins restrict access.

Power BI Courses

Windows required Power BI Desktop required Exercise files required

Power BI courses require Power BI Desktop. Power BI Desktop is a Windows application, so Mac users need access to a Windows environment.

Software Install Power BI Desktop before class.
Operating system Windows is required for Power BI Desktop. Windows 11 is recommended.
Files Download and extract Power BI exercise files before class.
  • Install Power BI Desktop from Microsoft Store or Microsoft’s official download page.
  • Check your version by opening Power BI Desktop and going to Help > About.
  • For Intermediate, Advanced and specialist courses, 64-bit Power BI Desktop is strongly recommended.
  • Corporate devices may block installation, so check with IT before training day.

Power BI DAX Course

Windows required Power BI Desktop required DAX Studio required

The Power BI DAX course requires Power BI Desktop and DAX Studio installed before training day.

Power BI Desktop Install the latest Power BI Desktop. 64-bit is strongly recommended.
DAX Studio Install DAX Studio before class.
Files Download and extract DAX course files before class.
  • Mac users need a Windows device or approved Windows virtual environment.
  • Check workplace IT permissions before installing DAX Studio.
  • Open both Power BI Desktop and DAX Studio before class to confirm they work.

Microsoft 365 Courses

Browser access required Microsoft account required

Microsoft 365 courses usually require browser access, a Microsoft account and relevant Microsoft 365 services enabled for your organisation.

Account Use the Microsoft 365 account you plan to use during training.
Browser Microsoft Edge or Chrome recommended.
Apps Desktop apps may be required for some activities.
  • Check that you can sign in to Microsoft 365 before class.
  • Confirm your account can access the relevant apps and services.
  • Corporate tenant policies may restrict some features or sharing options.

Microsoft Teams Courses

Teams courses require access to Microsoft Teams and a working microphone and speakers.

Software Install the Microsoft Teams desktop app where possible.

Hardware Headset, microphone and webcam recommended.
  • Open Teams before class and check your audio device settings.
  • Confirm you can access chat, meetings and files if covered in your course.
  • Some features depend on your organisation’s Teams policies.

SharePoint Courses

  • Open Power Automate before class and confirm you can create a flow.
  • Check with IT if your organisation blocks connector access.
  • Use a work or training account, not a personal account, unless instructed otherwise.

Power Apps Courses

Power Apps courses require browser access to Power Apps and a Microsoft account with suitable permissions.

Account Microsoft 365 account with Power Apps access.
Browser Microsoft Edge or Chrome recommended.
Environment Confirm your organisation allows app creation or use a provided training environment.
  • Open Power Apps before class and check your access.
  • Corporate security settings may restrict environments, connectors or app creation.
  • Use the same account throughout the course to avoid permission issues.

Copilot and AI Courses

Browser access required Licence requirements vary

Copilot and AI course requirements vary. Some courses require Microsoft 365 Copilot access, while others use general AI demonstrations or browser-based tools.

Account Check whether your course requires Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Chat or another AI tool.
Browser Use a current browser such as Edge or Chrome.
Access Confirm your organisation does not block required AI tools.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot requires an organisational licence where applicable.
  • Some AI courses can be completed without a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence.
  • Review your course confirmation carefully for tool-specific access requirements.

Microsoft Project Courses

Desktop app required Windows recommended

Microsoft Project courses usually require the Microsoft Project desktop application installed and licensed.

Software Microsoft Project desktop app installed and activated.
Operating system Windows is recommended for Microsoft Project desktop courses.
Files Download and extract project exercise files where provided.
  • Microsoft Project is different from Planner and Planner Premium.
  • Open Project before class and confirm it is licensed.
  • Check with IT early if software installation is managed centrally.

Planner Premium Courses

Microsoft 365 access required Browser access required

Planner Premium courses require Microsoft 365 access and appropriate permissions for Planner Premium features.

Account Microsoft 365 account with Planner Premium access.
Browser Microsoft Edge or Chrome recommended.
Permissions Some premium project features depend on your licence and tenant settings.
  • Check whether your organisation has enabled Planner Premium features.
  • Sign in with the same account you will use during training.
  • Do not assume Microsoft Project desktop access covers Planner Premium access.

Visio Courses

Visio courses require access to Microsoft Visio. The desktop app is recommended for full course functionality.

Software Microsoft Visio installed and licensed, preferably desktop app.
Files Download and extract Visio exercise files where supplied.
Compatibility Some features differ between Visio desktop and Visio for the web.
  • Open Visio before class to confirm your licence works.
  • Check your course confirmation for whether desktop Visio is required.
  • Use a second screen to follow diagram-building demonstrations.

Python Courses

Python courses require a working Python environment and course exercise files. Setup requirements may vary by course level.

Software Python environment installed as advised in your course confirmation.
Editor Use the code editor or notebook environment advised for your course.
Files Download and extract Python course files before class.
  • Open the required editor or notebook environment before class.
  • Check that Python runs successfully on your device.
  • Corporate devices may block installations, package downloads or command-line access.
IT-managed devices Contact your IT team before training day if you cannot install software or run Python packages.

SQL Courses

SQL courses require access to the required database tools and course files. Setup may vary by course level.

Software SQL Server tools or required database environment as advised.
Files Download and extract SQL course files before class.
Device Windows is recommended for technical setup consistency.
  • Install required SQL tools before class where instructed.
  • Check that you can connect to the required local or training database.
  • Do not wait until training day to complete database setup.

R Programming Courses

R required RStudio recommended Exercise files required

R courses require R installed and usually use RStudio or the recommended coding environment.

Software Install R and the recommended R coding environment.
Packages Some courses may require packages that need to be installed before class.
Files Download and extract R course files before class.
  • Open R and the recommended editor before class to confirm they run.
  • Corporate devices may block package installation.
  • Use the course confirmation as the source of truth for any required package list.

Machine Learning in R

R required RStudio recommended Packages required

Machine Learning in R requires an R environment, course files and the ability to install or access required R packages.

Software Install R and the recommended R coding environment.
Packages Check your confirmation for required machine learning and data packages.
Files Download and extract data and exercise files before class.
  • Confirm package installation is not blocked on your device.
  • Test that R and the editor can open and run a simple script.
  • Use a stable internet connection in case package or file access is required.

Adobe InDesign Courses

InDesign courses require Adobe InDesign installed, licensed and ready to use before class.

Software Install Adobe InDesign desktop app.
Licence Sign in to Creative Cloud and confirm your InDesign licence works.
Files Download and extract InDesign course files before class.

  • Large creative files may take time to download, so prepare early.

  • Open Acrobat before class and confirm the correct version is installed.
  • Free Acrobat Reader may not be enough for all course activities.

Canva Courses

Canva courses require browser access and a Canva account. Some activities may depend on your Canva plan.

Account Sign in to Canva before class.
Browser Use Chrome, Edge or another current browser.
Files Download any supplied assets or prepare access to your brand materials if required.
  • Confirm you can create and edit a Canva design before class.
  • Some workplace accounts may restrict uploads, sharing or templates.
  • Use a second screen to follow demonstrations while designing.

Troubleshooting

Quick fixes for common remote training issues.

Try these steps before contacting support. If the issue continues, contact Nexacu before your course starts.

Do not use Incognito or InPrivate browser mode. Check that cookies are not blocked. Corporate VPNs or security settings may also block access to portal pages and files.

  • Try a standard browser window.
  • Clear cache or try a different browser.
  • Disconnect from VPN if your organisation allows it.
  • Use the password reset process if your login details are not working.

You may be viewing the portal in Billing Contact mode. Switch the portal toggle to Student to view your course details.

Check your final confirmation email, reminder email, calendar invite and student portal. Meeting links may appear close to the course date.

  • Check Junk or Spam folders.
  • Check your Outlook or Teams calendar.
  • Log in to the student portal and review your booking card.
  • Contact Nexacu if the course is close to starting and you still cannot find the link.

In Microsoft Teams, open device settings and confirm the correct microphone, speaker and camera are selected.

  • Check your headset mute switch.
  • Close other apps using your microphone or camera.
  • Restart Teams or rejoin the meeting.
  • Try joining through a browser if the desktop app is not working.

If the course files are provided as a compressed file, right-click the downloaded .zip file and choose “Extract All”. Do not only double-click the zip file and work inside it.

  • Extract files to a real folder such as Desktop or Documents.
  • Check that the file download completed fully.
  • Contact your IT team if corporate security blocks downloads.

Some workplace VPNs, firewalls and security tools can block training files, portals or Teams access. Check with your IT team before the course if your device is managed by your organisation.

Your remote classroom is live and instructor-led. Join early, keep distractions low and be ready to participate in demonstrations, exercises and discussion.

Do I need a Microsoft Teams account?

A paid Microsoft Teams account is not required. You can usually join using the Teams desktop app or a supported browser through the meeting link provided.

Where is my meeting link?

Check your final confirmation email, reminder email, student portal and Outlook or Teams calendar invite. Links may be generated close to the course date.

Can I use one screen?

You can, but two screens are strongly recommended. One screen can show the trainer demonstration while the other is used for exercises.

Can I use my phone as a second screen?

A mobile phone is not recommended because the screen is too small. Use a second monitor or tablet where possible.

What if my software is not installed?

Install the required software before the course. If your computer is managed by your workplace, contact your IT team before training day.

What if I join late?

Training starts promptly. If late entry disrupts the class or setup issues prevent participation, you may be denied entry or removed from the session.
